One thing I’ve learned in the process of managing this blog is that there’s an axis of evil harvesting the innocent email addresses of blog administrators. Like me. Oh, and the longer your blog is online, the more damn spamn shows up. Nearly every one is for viagra, online casinos, phenteramine, or other drugs or vices.
I tired of deleted the swelling number of items, so now any of you kind readers who want to comment must first register and log in. Sorry for the hassle, but I hope that it won’t deter our witty and interesting friends from adding their color items to this blog.
Inquiring minds will ask what the heck is Warthog Pinacate?
Two of our favorite creatures. In Africa, we were charmed by the warthog families who trot across the grass lands with their tasseled tails upright, in size order from largest to smallest. Despite having nasty fangs and bumpy faces, there’s a certain “cuteness” to these creatures.
And Pinacate? Spanish for stinkbugs, those shiny black beetles that tilt end up when harrassed. They are the only visible creatures that live in the remote areas of the Sonora desert, where the sand dunes reach to 200 feet in height and there’s not a sign of humans for 60 miles. Oh, but that’s a story for another time.
This site would not be possible without the marvelous tools produced by WordPress. I’ve also shamelessly (well, OK with a small blush) lifted the style from the “Landzilla” presentation style.
Greetings and welcome!
This is the weblog and travelog for Fred and Carolyn McClain. In this site, we will share the experiences of an adventure we will be undertaking starting mid-July of 2005.
Our plan is to head south from our home in San Diego, thru Mexico and Central America, destination: the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica.
The photo in our web header is Grande Beach, near where we will be staying for most of our visit to CR. We’ll be posting notes and photos as we make our way south, and for our return. Accompanying us will be our Rottweiler, Bentley, who will find a whole new universe ahead.
Why Costa Rica? Where else can you travel back in time? Where a “high rise” on the beach is 3 stories, not 33. Where the ocean water is pure and warm, and the native animals still inhabit the towns. It’s a fine place with a great quality of life.
Along with the travelog, we’ll share thoughts on other topics - look in the “Links” section for musings or other additions.
Please, come with us and join our adventure!
