I am glad you made it home well. Just in case you don´t remember me, I me you at Todos Santos, BCS. Thank you again so much for helping me pull my Ranger from the lonley, dark beach. I enjoyed reading about your experiences in Central America and you definitely have a knack for writing vividly and interestingly. I am also glad that Bentley was uninjured in the encounter with the German Shepards. You both are sure adventurous and it is certainly exciting to converse with you. I will send your website to Leslie, whom I told about you. Look forward to meeting you again and you are welcome to stay with us at our new home in La Paz that is expected to be completed in February 2006. I have been here since early Sept. and looking forward to spending Thanksgiving in the Bay Area.

Another reason is that nothing at the borders is automated. They have vintage 1950’s manual typewriters, a stock of multipart forms and carbon paper, for heaven’s sake! The process is entirely freeform, as Fred describes, with each agent improvising as best he or she can. And their corrresponding partners at the opposite side of the country often has a different take on the proper protocols!
