Starting Towards Home

I checked out of our Faro in Playa Grande and headed north. I drove to the small non-tourist town of La Cruz, Costa Rica. La Cruz is about 15 miles south of the Nicaragua border.

Rain, rain and more rain. All the the Central American countries are being hit pretty hard. For the most part its just an inconvience here in Costa Rica although several small villages have had serious damage.

I got all my border crossing papers, maps, books and such all orgainized and placed in a box in the front seat of the landcruiser. When i returned from my last blog posting i discovered the skyroof had sprung a leak! What a mess! I checked in to Amilla Inn, eight rooms with bath and spectacular view of the pacific from each room. $20 per night, protected parking and Bentley was allowed inside. No cover on the parking so i spend the night worrying that more soaking would occur but it looked ok this morning. Thanks to the duct tape. I spent the evening on the bed with Carolyn’s hairdryer putting things back together.

I recalled that Carolyn and i had a good lunch at a place called La Negra just north of La Cruz early in our trip. I decided to revisit it as I didn’t see any appealing restaurants in town. I started the drive, in the dark, north. The rain increased, the jungle started closing in. It’s pretty amazing how these things alter the experience. I found La Negra mostly empty execpt for the owner and a couple of neighbors. Amazingly the owner recalled our visit from two months earlier. Very friendly. I turned our that this was the evening of the big game. Soccer USA vs Costa Rica. So they had me come and join the ‘crowd’ at the bar. USA lost 3 -0. wheh! The owners 10 yr old boy showed up. Pura Vida and we traded english-spanish lessons.
